Foreign Bodies lauds Nigeria Women Affairs Minister

It is indeed worth applauding the Hon. Minister for Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen as she takes grassroots campaign regarding women, girl child in Nigeria to commendable heights.

Her activities have gone wide that even the United Nations could recognise and nod and identify with her giant strides, publicly.

On Thursday, in commemoration of the 2021 International Day of Women and Girls in Science, with the theme; “Women Scientists at the Forefront of the Fight Against COVID-19”, the Women minister out of her schedules stormed Government Girls Science Secondary Schools, Kuje, Abuja-FCT, with all her staff at the ministry to celebrate the Women and girls in sciences and of course it availed the students the privilege of interacting with her.

It was on this note the UN Women Country Representative, ably represented by the National Programs Officer, UN Women Nigeria, Mrs. Patience Ekeoba while talking on the need for Women, Girl Child education is important in the 21st century applauded the Hon. Minister, Dame Pauline Tallen.
“We in totality commend the Hon. Minister for Women Affairs in Nigeria, Dame Pauline Tallen over her strategic grassroots campaigns in all concerns of the Women, Girl-child in Nigeria”.

Speaking further, she pointed out that there is a need for the government to get more committed to the girl child education, as she stressed on the low percentage of women and girls in the macrocosm of science and technology.

Similarly, UNIEF representative, Mrs. Azuka Menkiti who charged the female students on persistence and determination also lauded the minister for her good works, pointing out that a lot more needs to be done on girl child education in Nigeria.

Earlier, the representative of the Hon. Minister of Science and technology, Dr. Ogbonaya Onu said, COVID-19 has created a serious burden in the area of women and girls child in science, urging the government to specially look inward to see how these burdens can be mitigated as regards to the women and girl child education.

Also, the UNFPA representative, Eritca Goldson charged the students of the institution to see the privilege of having the Hon. Minister for Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen as a driving force to work hard and take their academics seriously so that they can attain heights far beyond the Minister.

However, at the start of the event, the Principal of the College, Obiageli Sabina in her welcome address expressed delight at the presence of the Minister in person, elucidating that her presence alone is a message and inspiration to the students. Thanking her for seeing the institution as most worthy to visit in such a groundbreaking international celebration.

At the brim of the event, the minister, Dame Pauline Tallen, emphasized that Girl Child education shall not be left behind.
” We will also strive hard to create more awareness for the Girl Child education”.

Applauding the teachers, she charged them to always engage the skill of motivating girls who do well in science.

Statistically analyzing the rate of women’s involvement in science, she stated that only thirty percent (30%) of women around the world are researchers.
“We are far below the percentage we should have attained. This calls for collaboration and critical involvement of partners to make us occupy a reasonable percentage that we all can be proud of”.
