Saliu Mustapha: A Pragmatic Bridge-Builder APC Must Not Miss

By Bala Usman

The coming on board of Engineer Saliu Mustapha to contest for the national chairmanship position in the ruling All Progressives Congress ( APC), is not only a good omen,  but an answered prayer for the party.

Recent happenings in APC have showed that the party needs a proven bridge builder to provide a sustainable national lifeline urgently  needed by leaders of the party,  to weather the boisterous storms already threatening the existential fabrics of the party.

Naysayers have reeled out several permutations,  pointing to an imminent catastrophic doomsday, which all lovers of the party must not wink at, but join progressive hands to avert.

Engr. Mustapha, conscientiously aware of such daunting challenges,  has willingly  answered the clarion call to rescue the party and keep it healthy and fit to continue providing political leadership to the country.

Over the years, the Turaki of Ilorin Emirate,  has earned  a track record in all spheres of life,  distinguishing  himself as a trusted and committed bridge-builder, divinely blessed with effusive skills for amending fences.

He is also fully aware of the cracks and bends on the party’s structures, and he is not only prepared to fix and correct all infractions, but qualified to inject the required adrenaline for cohesion.

His ability to speak the three Nigerian major languages; namely Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo is quite a unique selling point.

That also stands him out,  as a brand,  most suitable for the current divided political market in Nigeria.

As an ardent believer in progressive ideology, and a trailblazer laced with undying virtues that inspires and propels, he has offered himself for service,  and will leave no stone unturned in restoring the fastly diminishing fortunes and glory of the party.

It wasn’t an academic nor a philosophical rhetoric for him,  when he opined that ” we can’t change anything until we begin to do things differently “.

He was speaking from his  deeply rooted unflinching conviction,  that the party needs rejuvenated ideas and new approaches for effective human and material resources management.

Abounding testimonials from different quarters have vividly revealed that Engr. Mustapha is richly blessed with all it takes to rebrand APC.

Engr. Mustapha has an inspiring political experiences ,  having being tutored and  mentored by political icons, such as Dr. Ezekiel Izuogu, foremost nationalist and former National secretary of the Social Democratic Party ( SDP) and Dr. Sarah Jubril,  a former Special Adviser to a former Nigeria’s President,  on Ethics and Values.

His political sagacity and strength of purpose stem from the fact that he has also had close affinity with the leadership ideological prowess of the likes of President Muhammadu Buhari,  Alexies Anielo,  Chief Olu Falae, and  Alhaji Balarabe Musa.

His political administrative and managerial skills had at various times passed through the furnace of time without depreciating.

He demonstrated excellent and inspiring leadership when he held sway at a very youthful age as the National Publicity Secretary of the Progressive Liberation Party ( PLP), the National Publicity Secretary of the Progressive Action Congress(PAC).

As a visionary go-getter,  he was the first National Chairman of the Progressive Action Congress (PAC) which he later led to form a coalition with the then All Nigeria Peoples Party ( ANPP) in 2003.

Being an all-time unifier, he served as the National Organising Secretary of the Conference of Nigerian Political Party ( CNPP).

Cherished and admired by both older and younger generations, he has had the opportunity of proving his political mettle, when he helped to pioneer ‘ The Buhari Organization'( TBO). He was a member of ANPP’s Presidential Campaign Council in 2003 and 2007, as well as the Kwara focal person and Campaign Coordinator for Muhammadu Buhari when he contested then in ANPP.

Further demonstrating his awesome political tenacity, he was among the think-tank for the formation of Congress for Progressive Change in 2009, where he later emerged the Deputy National Chairman.

As a loyal party man, after missing the opportunity to get APC’s governorship ticket in Kwara , he assiduously worked as a member of the State’s Gubernatorial Campaign Council and also the Presidential Campaign Council.

As one of the arrow heads of the ” Oto’ ge ” ( Enough is Enough) revolution in Kwara state, he understands the rules of the game needed to root out unprofitable political liturgy, and the  enthronement of acceptable political culture.

He believes that there are  certain clogs on APC’s wheel of progressive, which must be vehemently attacked, to accelerate speed and balance for the party.

Such responsibility is the driving force that propels his aspirations and desire to serve as the National Chairman of APC.

For a man who has demonstrated passion and readiness through his avowed and heartfelt affirmation ” i will lead from the front “, giving directions to the party won’t be a big deal.

His pragmatism in political leadership had been robustly exemplified in the various positions he had led from in the time past.

Engr. Mustapha is strongly persuaded that a political party shouldn’t just be skillful in winning elections only, but dutiful and effective in providing qualitative governance and development that guarantees profound positive impact on all citizens.

To achieve this, he has not only shown that he is capable and ready to criss-cross the length and breadth of the country, reconciling dissidents and aggrieved members of the party, but also making APC  a desirable bride to all Nigerians, while securing victories for the party at all levels.

When he said, ” i will adopt a different political culture”, he was expressly revealing well thought out strategies, he has outlined to help strengthen internal democracy in the party, and expand the trajectory of development in the country.

While he has never hidden his dislike for divisive forces that siphon party unity and loyalty, he has also not compromised his position in making painstaking sacrifices to entrench party supremacy.

Engr. Mustapha’s mission to ” respect the past, but approach the future differently “, is not merely a concocted empty propaganda,  but an expressive desire to ” build a national political structure that is virile,  enduring,  dynamic and winning “

Undoubtedly, It will be a worthwhile service to God and humanity,  for all stakeholders and admirers of APC , as well as lovers of democracy and good governance , to support this quintessential leader to cruise to victory at the forthcoming National Convention of the party.

Obviously,  supporting  Engr. Saliu Mustapha, is the only wise thing which stakeholders who mean well for the party and Nigeria at large should do, as it will ultimately translate to great legacies and benefits all.
